A historic sea-side pub and restaurant in St Margaret’s Bay, near Dover, The Coastguard invites you to dive into local food and drink while enjoying an epic view over the waves.
Britain’s nearest pub to France, the Coastguard has kept watch on the sea-front for more than 300 years – and after its refurbishment means you can take in those spectacular bay views in style.
The pub’s look is inspired by maritime heritage, with a red and white lighthouse-style fascia and boat-shaped planters and lifebuoys dotted around the beautiful front verandah – where an outside bar and barbecue set the scene for summer. In winter, the pub offers a haven for those enjoying a bracing walk along Dover’s famed White Cliffs. Inside, the nautical theme continues, with a warm welcome offered to all who come aboard.
We are delighted to be part of the BritStops group - and enjoy welcoming Campervans to use our car park. It is a really special place to stop with fabulous views over the Channel.
We do, however, have limited space so it is important that you call ahead to book your space. We can then confirm all the details with you.
You are welcome to arrive after 5pm and set off by 12pm the following day. Overnight parking is free of charge in our car park, but we do ask that you book a table to eat with us during your stay - either dinner or breakfast.

81 Beach Street was opened in 2005, the aim being to create a great place to eat – a neighbourhood restaurant loved by the community. In our first year we were named “Kent’s Best Restaurant”.
Since then the business has grown considerably, in 2015 The Granville in Canterbury was acquired, 2017 came The Coastguard in St Margaret’s Bay and most recently, our 4th site, The Coach in Hacklinge. This has led to the creation of the owner company ‘Beach Street Restaurants Ltd’.
From just 3 of us, opening that door for the first time in 2005, to the 85 of us working here today, our purpose has remained the same. A passion for great food, great service, and a belief that the only way to achieve both is by the best people working together.
We are always on the lookout for passionate people to bring their personalities to our Kent-based pubs & restaurants.
Whether you’re after a long-term career in hospitality or a part time job in a role you love, our teams are waiting for you to join them!
Give us a call if you can’t find the time you’re looking for, as we’ll always try our best to move things around! For parties of over 6 people, please book with us on the phone: 01304 853051.
